'The Gallery of Costume' at Platt Hall

This is a recent 3rd year project set by the 'Design Lab' on behalf of the 'Gallery of Costume, Manchester. This costume gallery is housed in the elegant surroundings of Platt Hall in Manchester however it is currently closed to the public as they trying to reinvent and re establish themselves as a place for the public to visit and enjoy. I began by exploring the gallery itself and its amazing extensive collection, and from this developed imagery. I took my initial drawings and took them into screen print, printing on various papers and fabrics, working in different formats. I designed promotional large scale posters and a range of stationary and other goods designed to be sold in their gift shop as a momento of visiting the gallery. I made a range of post cards, book marks, ties and both paper and fabric paged books.

'Amber' Magazine: Lifestyle Publication

This 2nd year brief was to produce a 'Lifestyle Publication' for a niche target audience of our choice to visually engage and captivate. As a red head myself, i decided to create an aspirational publication specifically for red headed females. I used a combination of medias, from photography and illustration to hand drawn type and layering of drawings over photographs. I also incorporated quotes and narratives along with poetry typed using a type writer, to add a more tactile and a more personal feel. I also experimented with different papers and printing techniques. In hindsight, i feel my choice of binding was not appropriate and does not reflect the nature of the publication, i would certainly change the spiral bind for something more original and hand made, such as a simple stitch.
