'Roots' Magazine

This is one of my most recent self directed projects. A large format publication entitled 'Roots', based on the idea of sustaining and nurturing the environment, this edition is about the area of Formby, a beautiful north west
coastal town. It combines elements of photography, illustration and typography developed from the idea of hand-crafted type taken into the environment. This publication aims to inspire and positively influence a change
of attitude towards cherishing our environment around us, no matter where you live. Enjoy and value what you have.

About Me

My photo
Rachel Gale
Im a twenty three year old, enthusiastic, creative individual. I love to express my personality, thoughts and experiences through image making. I adore submersing myself into my sketchbooks, documenting anything and everything using mixed media, drawing, and type in a illustrative style.I strive to create both a visual and emotional unfolding through the use of textures, photography, collage and found objects. When working on personal projects I love to experiment and let my work develop naturally and evolve. I adore working by hand, handling materials and 'making' is my thing, especially designing and binding hand made books. However, i find the restraints of a set brief more challenging and push my ideas as a designer, working to set requirements and to an achievable outcome. I am highly self motivated and enjoy working independently, although working collaboratively as part of a design team can be more fun, ambitious and definitely a greater beneficial learning experience. Sharing and bouncing ideas of others when working as a team is invigorating and allows creativity to accelerate. I love the prospect of a challenge and always put in 100% with enthusiasm and a smile! x
